3 Steps to Marriage

Ok, so I thought I would visit this theme, aided by my father, Pat Horner...Short thoughts on courtship and marriage...how long does "courtship" last?

Taken from the biblical account of Isaac and Rebekah--

1. Help her get off the camel.

2. Say I do.

3. Take her into the tent.

Is it the Lord's will for me to be with this person? If the answer is yes, them marry them already!!!

Thanks, Dad, for letting me share your advice to all those out there comtemplating marriage!

Any thoughts, people??

Very straight forward approach.

Yes, C, very straight forward, but then, that's how my Dad is, and I tend to lean that direction myself! Thanks for the comment.

I *knew* when I got home from the first date. I suspected as much before that. I went through one day of doubt, followed by three weeks of him "leaving me alone so I could think." After that I was one hundred per cent positive. Four months later we were married. The reason we waited that long was because we were going to live in a different state and he wanted to get established in a job first, and get our first apartment set up (rent, deposit, utilities, etc.).

In other words, the tent wasn't set up yet. :)

Well, I'll put it this way: we met in January, started a courtship officially on March 8th, engaged May 24th, married July 22nd and were wishing it could have been even faster. Once again, your dad is right. :) Love that man.
Seriously though, there are some great books on the subject of approaching courtship and marriage seriously and often, quickly. There is a good measure of truth (when examined by Scripture) to the old "when you know, you know"
Miss you.

That's quite an idea. I agree with "when you know, you know." we'd always been told that, and when we knew, we knew:) I'm so thankful to be a part of a marriage that's truly blessed by our Lord'!

Hi Rebekah,

I'm a friend of Pearl's, and I came over here from her site. I think I'll hang out here more often - you sound nice!

I'm all for quick engagements - I attended my sister's wedding in April of 1997, and did not bring a date to the wedding because I didn't have anyone to bring. Three weeks later I was 'sort of' engaged to a long-time friend who I had previously never thought of that way, but when we knew, we knew. We got married the following January.
