I just finished reading one of these articles and STRONGLY suggest you all do the same! They address the issue of the dangers of soy in our diet. What has been hailed as "healthy" may actually be seriously harming us, especially our infants and children.
Here's an excerpt from the article written for No Geater Joy by Debi Pearl in 2001.
Soybeans! Healthy, right? Full of vitamins? Full of protein? Yes, everyone knows that. Not according to new research. It is common knowledge that soybeans are loaded with plant compounds that mimic estrogen, a female hormone. Many post menopausal women use soy products to help control hot flashes and other problems caused by hormonal imbalances. And soy is very effective in supplying the hormones needed! Think about it. If soy products supply sufficient hormones to balance out older women, what are they doing to newborn babies fed soy formula? What is this female hormone doing to men who have a constant diet of tofu and soy milk? What about younger women who already have a full supply of estrogen; how does a diet of estrogen rich soy affect them? Research is now strongly pointing to some very disturbing facts....read more.

Pearl provides several links for beginning your own research into this issue. I believe we, as wives, mothers, daughters and friends, need to be informed and take steps to protect our families!
This is another site to study for more information

Does that article match with current research? Since it's six years old, it might be a little outdated (but I have no idea)
As far as I know this research is current. But if anyone has some other information, please let me know.
I was taken back by what I read and definitely want to know what's really true about this issue.
Another note--
This link(the second one in my post) provides up-to-date info about the uses and dangers of soy.

I recommend you check it out.
A while back our doctor (holistic) told me that soy was a junk food and it was especially bad for young children boys in particular. I took it lightly at the time as we had been eating soy food for years in place of meat. I was raising my 3 (at the time) little boys on a partial soy diet. while doing other health research I came across an article at www.newstarget.com that talked about soy. I couldn't believe it... it really is horrible. I could go on and on...
I agree with you and if you want more info I would check out www.newstarget.com. It's a great site and you can search lots of great info. I'll try to find the one on soy.
have a great day
4littlemen, thanks so much for dropping by and for your comment. I'm determined to find as much info as I can on this subject for the sake of my boys.
This is very interesting- I work at a Health Food store part time and use a soy protein shake and drink soy milk all the time. I also have really been having trouble with my thyroid lately- so the link between soy and thyroid problems really interested me...I am going to put a hold on my soy use until I find out more! Thanks for the heads up! Melody
Someone gave us a big box of soybeans, thinking I could grind them in my wheat grinder. I did that once, but nobody really liked the smell or the taste of the bread I baked with some of it.
Now I have to find a way to get rid of all those soybeans. It seems a shame to just throw them away. I don't dare compost them; I'll be pulling soybeans out of my garden all next season! If only I still had my chickens....
soy is NOT a miracle food, but neither is it something horrible. there are many health benefits of soy and, when compared to meat, the risks are far less. The key is moderation. I, my husband and my son are vegetarian and we eat soy, but not a lot and not every day. we also eat a lot of regular beans which contain large amounts of protein. A lot of this studies are fat too polarized.
i meant FAR too polarized, of course.
